Customers burn Minya gas station in fuel shortage fight

Several customers set a gas station south of Matay city in Minya Governorate on fire Wednesday after fighting with a worker at the station over who would fill their tanks first.

The station was burned down, but no deaths were reported. Authorities filed a report and informed prosecutors to begin investigations into the incident.

Recent fuel shortages have caused overcrowding at gas stations in Minya and other governorates, leading to demonstrations, long lines and fighting between drivers and gas station employees.

Drivers routinely accuse station owners of withholding fuel to increase prices, while the government tends to blame the shortage on black market sales.
