Deadline for election law 18 February

Ali Awad, constitutional adviser to the president, said that the deadline for the High Elections Commission to receive the election law is 18 February.

He added that the president’s office has not yet received any proposals from political parties regarding the matter.

“We will not accept proposals after 9 February,” he said, adding that the presidency will not hold any community dialogue on the law, but will look into all written proposals.

According to the constitution, the High Elections Commission should hold presidential elections by mid-April in accordance with Article 230, which states that elections should take place 30 to 90 days after the constitution's ratification.
