Egypt aims to attract 30 million tourists annually by 2030

Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly announced that the government has set an ambitious strategic goal to attract 30 million tourists annually by 2030.

During a press conference at the Cabinet’s headquarters, Madbouly explained that this comes as part of the government’s comprehensive plan to support the tourism sector.

He also affirmed that the state is currently implementing a number of major tourism and development projects on the coasts of the Red and Mediterranean Seas.

The goal is to improve infrastructure and tourism services, and to enhance the capacity of Egypt’s tourist destinations to meet global standards.

In 2024, Egypt received 15.7 million tourists, a significant increase from 14.9 million in 2023. This figure was the highest ever recorded for Egyptian tourism.

However, officials stated that the number could have been even higher (up to 18 million) if not for regional challenges, such as the conflict in Gaza.

To achieve the new target of 30 million tourists by 2030, the government’s strategy includes:

Investing in infrastructure: This involves expanding hotel capacity and improving key roads that serve tourist destinations.

Major projects: The government is betting on large-scale projects, most notably the official opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), which is expected to attract millions of visitors.

Economic reforms: The government is implementing a comprehensive package of economic reforms aimed at enhancing the private sector’s role and improving the overall investment climate.
