Algeria’s Industry Minister Yahia Bachir said Egypt and Algeria have agreed to launch a direct maritime route between Algiers Port and the port of Alexandria to ease cargo movement and support rising bilateral trade.
Speaking at preparatory meetings of the two countries’ joint high committee in Cairo, which he co-chaired on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, evening with Egypt’s Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation Minister Rania Al-Mashat, he said trade between the two states increased in 2024 and is expected to exceed $1 billion this year.
He called for further growth in trade and in Egyptian investment in Algeria, citing ongoing projects by companies such as Elsewedy Electric and Orascom.
Bachir said a joint business council would help identify new investment opportunities and noted Egyptian firms’ participation in Algeria’s housing projects.
The preparatory talks also covered cooperation in more than 20 fields, including SMEs, industrial integration, renewable energy, housing, agriculture, higher education and religious affairs.
