Egypt condemns settler violence in West Bank

Egypt condemned in the strongest possible terms the recent attacks carried out by Israeli settlers in several villages and towns in the northern West Bank, including Silat al Dhahr and Fandaqumiya south of Jenin, as well as Qaryut south of Nablus.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday, March 22, 2026, Egypt denounced the assaults, which took place under the protection of Israeli occupation forces, describing them as a dangerous escalation targeting Palestinian civilians and their property, and a blatant violation of international humanitarian law.

Egypt expressed deep concern over the increasing pace of settler violence since the onset of the current escalation, warning that it reflects a systematic effort to alter the status quo and impose a fait accompli policy, particularly amid attempts to divert attention from ongoing violations in the West Bank.

The statement stressed that such practices constitute a clear breach of international legitimacy resolutions, foremost among them United Nations Security Council Resolution 2334, and contradict the advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice regarding the illegality of occupation, settlements, and related measures.

Egypt underscored the need for the international community to assume its responsibilities in halting these serious violations, ensuring protection for Palestinian civilians, and holding those responsible accountable, in a way that contributes to containing the escalation and restoring calm, leading to a just and comprehensive resolution of the Palestinian cause.
