Egypt govt: All Egyptians to be evacuated from Misurata, Libya

All Egyptians in the Libyan city of Misurata are expected to be evacuated in the coming few days, according a statement on Monday from Mohamed Abdel-Hakim, the assistant foreign minister for consular affairs and immigration. Abdel-Hakim told reporters that the Foreign Ministry is continuing its efforts to evacuate all Egyptians stranded in the city.

On Sunday, Abdel-Hakim said his ministry, with the cooperation of the International Organization for Migration, had succeeded in evacuating 4000 Egyptians from Misurata within a five-day period.

Concerning the number of Egyptians killed in Libya, Abdel-Hakim said he did not have any accurate data on this matter from the Red Cross or other organizations.

Meanwhile, Egyptian Foreign Minister Nabil al-Arabi expressed on Thursday his deep sadness for the death of five Egyptians during Wednesday’s bombing of Misurata. He said the Libyan government would be held fully responsible for any deaths or injuries caused to  Egyptian civilians residing in Libya.
