Egypt’s Aviation Ministry launched an experimental trial operation for the New Administrative Capital Airport on Tuesday, in the presence of Tourism Minister Rania al-Mashat and Civil Aviation Minister Younis al-Masry.
Masry said that this trial tests the safety of vital facilities and operating systems, identifying any technical problems so that they can be handled before the airport’s full operation.
The airport received its first domestic flight by EgyptAir, and Masry said that the airport will soon receive a number of flights which will ease current pressures on Cairo Airport.
He explained that the airport will contribute to achieving a comprehensive developmental leap in the region due to its connection to the Suez Canal Development Project and the Ain Sokhna Industrial Zone, as well as serving the different governorates and cities of east Cairo.
Masry stressed that the airport is equipped with modern means to receive aircraft of all sizes.
The operation of this new airport contributes to the revitalization of the tourism flow of Ain Sokhna and the Galala area, Mashat said. She added that this new airport will also increase the flow of both cultural and leisure tourism, especially after the inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum.
The New Administrative Capital Airport is located on an area of 16 square kilometers and contains a main building covering an area of 5,000 square meters.
It includes a passenger terminal with a capacity of 300 passengers per hour, eight parking spaces for aircrafts, 45 service and administrative buildings, an air control tower and a 3,650 meter runway suitable for receiving large aircraft and equipped with lighting and automatic landing systems.
