Egypt, Saudi Arabia “equalizing forces” in region, says SCMR head

Head of the Supreme Council for Media Regulation (SCMR) Karam Gabr described Egypt and Saudi Arabia as the “equalizing forces” in the region, with the media in both countries being strong and leading its peers in the whole region.

“Egypt is in the hearts of Saudis, and vice versa,” Karam told the Egyptian-Saudi media forum that was organized on Monday by the Supreme Council for Media Regulation.

The forum was co-chaired by Gabr along with Chairman of the Saudi Journalists Association Khalid al-Malik.

It was attended by Head of Egypt’s National Press Authority Abdel Sadeq el Shorbagy, CEO of Saudi Arabia’s Radio and Television Corporation Mohammed al-Harthi, in addition to a group of senior journalists and media men from both countries.

Gabr noted that a cooperation protocol will be signed by Egypt and Saudi Arabia in the media field, noting that media plays a major and effective role in the two countries.

Meanwhile, Head of Egypt’s National Press Authority Abdel Sadeq al-Shorbagy described Cairo-Riyadh relations as close and historical.

He added that the National Press Authority will launch a website for state-owned and private press institutions, expressing hope that there would be cooperation with Saudi newspapers in this regard.
