Egypt scientists to receive nuclear training in Russia

The state-run Scientific Research Academy is sending 15 Egyptian scientists from different universities and research centers for nuclear research training in Dubna, Russia next Saturday.

“The goal is to benefit from Russian expertise in the nuclear field and to eventually be able to train new cadres ourselves,” said mission director Ali Khalil.

Egypt has signed an agreement with Russia for the latter to train young Egyptian scientists for subsequent employment at the nuclear energy plants that Egypt hopes to complete by 2013.

According to Ali el-Leithy, science professor at Cairo University, the training will take three weeks and will concentrate on nuclear research reactors, the use of neutrons in environmental research, nuclear accelerators and computer networking.
