The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) has released its latest forecast, warning that warm-to-hot conditions will persist across most of the country today, with Cairo expected to hit a daytime high of 26°C. While the heat remains for now, a significant shift is on the horizon.
Winds and dust conditions
Satellite imagery shows that wind activity remains high across most regions. Dust and sandstorms are expected to continue on Saturday, though they will be less intense than the severe conditions experienced on Friday. These dusty conditions are currently affecting northern Egypt and Greater Cairo as well as parts of northern and southern Upper Egypt and South Sinai.
Cloud cover and possible rain
The EMA noted various cloud formations across the republic, including low-level clouds visible from northern Egypt to Cairo. High-level clouds are currently over South Sinai, while low and medium clouds over Upper Egypt and the Red Sea mountains may bring scattered light rain at intermittent intervals.
Major cooling trend ahead
The heatwave is nearing its end as weather maps indicate a sharp improvement starting mid-week. Temperatures are expected to plummet by as much as 10°C, which will bring a much-needed end to the unseasonably hot atmosphere.
