Egyptian-Emirati cooperation in eco-tourism underway

Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad met with the CEO of the MLG Group, Mohamed Salah, to discuss how to benefit from the green zone in Sharm el-Sheikh to support ecotourism projects and create a dialogue on climate change and sustainability.

Sharm el-Sheikh received many groups during the climate conference COP27,

The meeting took place on the sidelines of her participation in the World Government Summit held in Dubai, and was attended by Governor of South Sinai Khaled Fouda and Deputy Governor of South Sinai Enas Samir.

Fouad confirmed that the meeting aims to discuss Egyptian-Emirati cooperation in the field of environmental sustainability and climate change by promoting eco-tourism.

This  promising field was championed by the Ministry of Environment through the promotional campaign for natural reserves “Eco Egypt”, which promotes 13 eco-tourist destinations inside nature reserves.

The Green Zone was established at the COP27 Climate Conference behind the botanical garden of the Ministry of Environment in Sharm el-Sheikh to receive delegations from youth, women, civil society, the private sector and various universities to discuss thematic days, Fouad explained.

She said that the Green Zone is the legacy of the COP27 Climate Conference, where concerns affecting humanity are discussed.

A number of activities were discussed aiming to promote sustainability, whether by using electric means of transport, in addition to providing local special foods from South Sinai that express their popular and cultural heritage.

Exhibits in the area that were made from waste and manufactured by startup Egyptian companies were held.

Fouad added that cooperation with the UAE aims to link the idea of visiting the natural reserves in Sharm el-Sheikh, which is represented by the Nabq and Ras Mohammed reserves, with a visit to the green zone of the conference and the botanical garden.

A program for children to introduce natural reserves through the Natural History Museum located in the botanical garden is planned, she said, stressing the importance of having a center for green technology inside the central park located in Sharm el/Sheikh, which was established in cooperation between the Ministry and the South Sinai Governorate.
