Egyptian FM heads to Doha for Arab Peace Initiative meeting

Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr left Cairo Tuesday, heading to the Qatari capital of Doha for a two-day visit.

Amr will attend the Arab Peace Initiative meeting during the visit, ahead of the United Nations vote in September that will demand complete membership for an independent Palestinian state.

The Egyptian state-run news agency MENA reported that the meeting will discuss efforts made to halt Israeli military operations in Gaza, the situation in Libya, and recognition of the Libyan National Transitional Council.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, the foreign ministers of Egypt, Algeria, Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, the Palestinian Authority, Tunisia, Morocco and Sudan, as well as Arab League Secretary General Nabil al-Araby, will attend the meeting.
