Egypt and Iraq have agreed on a proposal submitted by the Iraqi Minister of Communications to establish an Egyptian-Iraqi company to start digital transformation projects within Iraq.
A statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Communications and Information Technology said that a joint team from the two countries will work to crystallize the idea and bring it into effect.
The announcement came during meeting between the Egyptian Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Amr Talaat with his Iraqi counterpart Arkan Shihab, who is currently visiting Egypt at the head of a high-level delegation.
Talaat confirmed that a joint committee will be formed to define cooperation steps into short-term executive plans, and that he is ready to meet the invitation of the Iraqi Minister of Communications to visit Iraq, expressing the interest of Egyptian companies to work in the Iraqi market.
His inistry is putting all its capabilities and expertise to support joint cooperation, Talaat stressed, adding that he and his Iraqi counterpart reviewed during their meeting with Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly the aspects of cooperation that had been agreed on.
These include communications and interconnection, joint projects in the field of digital transformation, automating government services, exchanging visions and experiences between the two postal institutions in the two countries, activating cooperation in the field of postal services, and providing financial services to Egyptians in Iraq and Iraqis through the Egypt Post.
It also includes cooperation in capacity building, deepening technical expertise in communications sciences, sponsoring innovative thought and entrepreneurship, and establishing joint start-ups between Iraqi and Egyptian youth, as well as cooperation in the fields of cybersecurity, satellite communications, and governance of the communications and IT sector to provide better services to citizens.
The Iraqi Minister of Communications stressed that the postal project is of great importance to his country.
Shihab expressed his interest to deepen cooperation in this area, and for Egypt to be one of the main countries to which the Iraqi postal traffic is transferred due to the experience of Egypt Post in providing various postal services to benefit depositors.
