Egypt and Spain discuss resumption of tourism

Egyptian Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Khaled al-Anany and his Spanish counterpart Maria Rice Maruto Lira on Tuesday discussed ways to enhance tourism cooperation between Egypt and Spain, tackling coronavirus precautionary measures amid Spain’s readiness to receive tourists from some countries starting July.

During a phone call, Anany and Lira discussed the resumption of tourism between the two countries according to preventive measures and health safety controls that ensure the safety of tourists and workers.

Anany and Lira also discussed the exchange of tourist events, utilization of Spanish expertise in the field of urban tourism, and ways of promoting Egyptian tourism products and destinations.

They agreed on renewing the joint cooperation agreement in the field of tourism — signed between the two countries in 2001 — with the aim of promoting integration in the tourism field.

Anany and Lira hoped to sign bilateral agreements between the two countries, including strict health guidlines.

Around 100,000 Spanish tourists visited Egypt in 2019.
