Egypt’s Public Prosecution has imprisoned four non-commissioned police officers on Saturday over beating to death a man called “Islam the Australian”, held in custody at Giza’s al-Munib Police Station.
One other officer involved in the case was released on bail.
The incident began when an officer was dispatched to al-Madbh Street to break up a fight which broke out between Islam and several other people.
After all parties were arrested, Islam was taken into detention where according to prosecution investigations he was beaten and tortured to death by the non-commissioned officers.
According to Islam’s family, the dispute began after he had objected to the removal of an awning at the street that was shading him from the sun.
