Eight killed in Fayoum crash

Eight people were killed and three others injured on Monday morning when their vehicle crashed in Fayoum Governorate, south of Cairo, according to officials.

A vehicle transporting agricultural workers to farm fields rolled over on the Qasr al-Bassel Road south of Fayoum, said Fayoum Ambulance Authority chief Magdy Abdel Tawab.

Both the injured and killed were taken to Fayoum Public Hospital, said Abdel Tawab, who went to the scene of the crash with security authorities.

The cause of the incident has not yet been determined and the victims are still being identified, as many were not carrying ID cards.

Road crashes are common in Egypt mainly due to poor road conditions, traffic law violations and lack of enforcement.
