El-Sayyed el-Badawi to run for Wafd presidency

Wafd Party Vice President Fouad Badrawi has announced he is withdrawing his name from the nominations for party presidency to allow el-Sayyed el-Badawi, a member of the party’s supreme authority and the party’s former secretary general, to run instead. Elections for the party’s president are scheduled for the end of this month.

The Wafd Party needs change and restructuring to develop all its institutions, said Badrawi in a statement released yesterday.

Badrawi added that after discussions with el-Badawi, they decided that the latter should run for the elections. Badrawi stressed the need for teamwork in order to revive the Wafd Party and pledged to put an end to the political and organizational crises that have shaken the party in recent years.

El-Badawi, for his part, said the Wafd’s general assembly represents one big family, and expressed hopes that the Wafd Party will emerge as the winner at the end of the elections, regardless of who the new president will be.

El-Badawi further urged members of the party to share in the reform process and determining the future of this nation.
