ElBaradei reaches out to disabled community

Presidential hopeful Mohamed ElBaradei on Tuesday said he met with representatives of Egypt's disabled community in what was perceived as an effort to garner the support of disabled voters.

Following the meeting, he wrote on Twitter, "Met today w/ reps of 8 million Egyptians w/ disabilities. Their rights are trampled. New Egypt must be based on equality & solidarity."

ElBaradei had previously met with Al-Azhar Grand Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayyeb, Sufi leaders, and officials from several parties such as the liberal Wafd Party and the Muslim Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party in his informal campaign for president.

Egypt has not yet begun officially registering presidential candidates.

ElBaradei came first in a poll posted on Facebook by the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces asking people about their preferred presidential candidate.

Potential Islamic candidate Mohamed Selim al-Awa came second.
