FJP leader calls presidential palace protests ‘conspiracy’

Hassan al-Brince, a Freedom and Justice Party leader, said ongoing protests in front of the Orouba Palace are a conspiracy to bring down President Mohamed Morsy.

He added that the protests are intended to show that Morsy is incapable of meeting demands.

During an interview with the satellite channel Tahrir on Tuesday, Brince accused State Security agents of paying protesters to create chaos in front the presidential palace.

He questioned how demonstrators expect Morsy to address their personal grievances individually and in person.

Egyptians have been staging protests since the beginning of the week in front of the palace, an area that was heavily secured during the rule of ousted President Hosni Mubarak. The demonstrations have drawn hundreds of employees from the Alexandria branch of Italian tire manufacturer Pirelli, an environmental monitoring unit and Cleopatra Ceramics, as well as others with grievances.
