FJP requests governor replacements

The Freedom and Justice Party sent an official request to President Mohamed Morsy on Wednesday to replace six governors with candidates from the party.

“The new governors will be able to implement the Renaissance program the president was elected for,” said Azab Mostafa, member of the FJP’s executive body.

His colleague, Akram al-Shaer, said the party is monitoring the performance of the governors and knows the weak points that should be addressed.

Sources within the party said the changes would take place within days. The sources added that the party nominated Farid Ismail, FJP board member, for Sharqiya. It also nominated Shaer, secretary general of the FJP in Port Said for the same governorate, Ahmed Mahmoud, secretary general of the FJP in Suez as the governor of Suez, and Hassan al-Brince, current deputy governor of Alexandria, to lead that governorate. The list also included FJP figures nominations for Aswan, Sohag, and Qena governorates.

Brince’s tour of Alexandria was only covered by Brotherhood media, angering other journalists and the political forces, who contended that this was a prelude to his appointment as governor.
