Egypt is ready to share its development expertise and provide technical support to Mozambique as the two countries seek to deepen bilateral cooperation, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty said on Monday.
Speaking at a joint press conference with his Mozambican counterpart, Maria Lucas, Abdelatty said Egyptian companies, which have played a key role in Egypt’s infrastructure and development drive, stand ready to contribute to Mozambique’s sustainable development efforts.
Abdelatty said the visit carries special significance as it coincides with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Egypt and Mozambique, describing bilateral ties as being rooted in mutual trust and Egypt’s longstanding support for African liberation movements.
He said the talks focused on strengthening cooperation, particularly in the economic and investment sectors, and on advancing the outcomes of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s visit to Maputo in 2023.
The minister added that he had conveyed President al-Sisi’s invitation to the Mozambican president to visit Cairo later this year, with both sides agreeing to coordinate the timing of the visit as part of efforts to launch a new phase of their development partnership.
The two countries also agreed to accelerate preparations for the third session of the Egypt-Mozambique Joint Higher Committee, due to be held in Cairo.
Abdelatty said the relevant technical committees had been instructed to finalize pending agreements and memoranda of understanding ahead of the committee’s meeting.
