The Egyptian Foreign Ministry on Tuesday announced the release of an Egyptian citizen who had been detained by Syrian security forces since early April.
Ambassador Mohamed Abdel Hakim, assistant foreign minister for consular affairs and Egyptians abroad, said that Syrian authorities released Mohamed Sibai, an Egyptian citizen, following calls made by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry and the Egyptian Embassy in Damascus.
Sibai, a 45-year-old owner of an import and export business, entered Syria via Jordan on 16 March and disappeared on 5 April. The Egyptian Embassy in Damascus learned of his disappearance from his relatives.
