Dr. Dawood Ibrahim, head of the Surgery Department of Mansoura University’s Faculty of Medicine, said that Egypt is countries in the world most affected by road accidents.

Speaking at the Emergency Surgery Conference of the Faculty of Medicine in Mansoura on Wednesday, Ibrahim said road accidents kill 1.2 million people in the world every year, injuring 20 to 50 million others.

He added that 40 out of 100,000 citizens in Egypt die in road accidents, which is the highest rate in the world.

For his part, Dr. Sabri Badr, a professor of general surgery, said Mansoura Emergency Hospital alone receives 160,000 patients every year, including 6,000 injured – sometimes with permanent disabilities – who had been injured on the site of an accident by passers-by, paramedics or doctors.
