Four people were killed in the Upper Egyptian governorate of Assiut following renewed feuds over the borders of two families’ respective agricultural lands.
State-run news agency MENA reported on Wednesday that four members of the Weseya and Mohamed families were killed by live ammunition after the two families exchanged fire.
Scores of police moved to the scene and cordoned off the homes of the two families while the prosecutors began investigating the crime.
With a society deeply rooted in the tribal system and easy access to weapons, Upper Egypt is a common area for blood feuds, known locally as Al-Tar.
