On Thursday evening, the Public Prosecution ordered the detention of four defendants for four days pending an investigation into an incident on Al-Wahat Road in Giza Governorate. The men chased three girls in their private cars, which ended with the victims’ car crashing into a parked semi-truck and injuring them.
The detention order came after the defendants were questioned and confronted with evidence, which included videos circulated on social media and surveillance camera footage obtained by the prosecution from the crash site and surrounding areas.
A judicial source confirmed that the defendants—three students and a driver for a ride-sharing app—confessed to committing the act as described in the police report. The prosecution has ordered the vehicles used in the incident to remain impounded until a technical inspection is completed.
The Ministry of Interior had previously announced the arrest of the four defendants after identifying them. This followed a report filed by the victims on August 13, stating they had been chased and attempts were made to stop them while they were driving on Al-Wahat Road. The incident resulted in the crash and left them with injuries and bruises.
The Public Prosecution is expected to continue its investigation by hearing witness testimonies and examining technical evidence before referring the case to trial.
