Security sources said that Egyptian prosecution arrested four former leaders from within the Ministry of Interior on Friday, charged with murdering peaceful protesters. They will be detained for 15 days.
According the sources, the suspects are former head of Cairo security Ismail Al-Shair; former head of public security Ali Fayid; former head of state security forces Ahmed Ramzi; and former head of the Cairo state security investigative unit Hussein Abdul Rahman.
Rights organizations accuse Egyptian security leaders of ordering officers to use live ammunition against protesters during the 18 days of pro-democracy demonstrations that began on 25 January and led to the ouster of president Hosni Mubarak on 11 February.
At least 684 Egyptians were killed in the protests, one rights organization said.
