Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar urged local and international companies to cooperate to rescue African countries from shortage of medicines of chronic diseases.
He asserted the big increase in diabetes in Africa, adding that the International Diabetes Federation points out that 24 million adult persons in Africa have diabetes.
This came on Monday in Abdel Ghaffar’s word during a session under the rubric “the role of local manufacturing in providing medicine for chronic diseases” held on the sidelines of the 76th meeting of the general assembly of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva, said a statement of the Health Ministry.
Abdel Ghaffar pointed out to the warning of WHO that the diabetes rates would increase all over the world by 2045.
Egypt has launching presidential initiative “100 million health” in 2018 under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi for early detection of non-contagious diseases, Abdel Ghaffar said.
Similar global initiatives are needed to respond to the big increase in the number of diabetes patients, he said.
He asserted the importance of providing organizational and financial potentials in addition to strengthening the health systems to make the basic medical products available for the patients.
