Health Ministry denies allocating LE700 million to increase doctors’ pay

Health Minister Amr Helmy has denied allocating LE700 million from the state budget to provide doctors with better pay.

The minister said that newspapers' reports on the matter were untrue.

Negotiations between the health and finance ministries about increasing the incomes of health sector employees working are ongoing, Helmy said, adding that the final financial cost has not yet been set.

Regarding the belief that large sums that are allegedly paid to senior advisers in the health sector, Helmy said the ministry’s budget does not include terms for senior advisers' pay. The team delegated from the finance and health ministries did not comment on the issue.

State hospital workers have staged several protests over the past few weeks demanding better living standards, threatening a public strike if their demands are not met.
