Policemen will return to their posts within a week at most, according to Egypt’s new Interior Minister, Mansour al-Essawi.
Al-Essawi, who accepted his post on Sunday, added that he has instructed the chiefs of Cairo and Giza security to order policemen to resume their positions as soon as possible.
Al-Essawi called on citizens to cease attacks on police so they can do their jobs with renewed confidence. He also vowed to restructure the state security investigations apparatus so that only terrorism issues fall within its remit.
