Interior Ministry denies responsibility for activist’s disappearance

The Interior Ministry denied reports Wednesday that the National Security Agency had detained Khaled al-Aqqad, a member of the April 6 Youth-Democratic Front Movement.

A statement for the ministry said the NSA is not responsible for Aqqad's disappearance, adding that all procedures the agency takes comply with the law.

The April 6 Youth-Democratic Front Movement announced Monday that Aqqad disappeared last Wednesday on his way home, accusing the Interior MInistry and the National Security Agency of being responsible.

Members of the movement marched to Tahrir Square Tuesday, following a protest outside the prosecutor general’s office denouncing Aqqad's disappearance and chanting against the government, Prime Minister Hesham Qandil's Cabinet and Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim.

Protesters also demanded an investigation into Aqqad's disappearance, and one movement member, Sherif al-Rouby, claimed Aqqad disappeared after refusing to spy for the National Security Agency.
