Iraq’s TV and media network said Sunday that police in the province of Samarra had arrested two relatives of Islamic States’ supreme leader, Abu Bakr al-Bahgdady.
On its website, the Iraqi Media Network quoted security sources as saying that a special force had arrested Baghdady’s uncle, Saleh Ibrahim Abd al-Moamen and his niece’s husband, Diaa Nory Saadoun.
The same source labelled the arrested suspects as key leaders of the movement in Samarra and were wanted for justice based on the anti-terrorism law.
A US-led coalition is leading military operations in Iraq and Syria against Baghdady’s IS which proclaims plans to establish and Islamic Caliphate in the Middle East.
