Local development minister discusses projects to upgrade S. Sinai reserves

Minister of Local Development and Environment Manal Awad met on Wednesday with officials from the UN Development Programme to review progress of the Green Sharm project and set steps to upgrade nature reserves in South Sinai.

The discussions followed a field visit to Sharm El-Sheikh and covered efforts to support sustainable tourism while protecting natural resources.

The plan includes development work in Ras Mohammed National Park, Nabq Protectorate, and Abu Galum Protectorate.

Awad called for improving facilities, regulating access to sensitive areas, installing solar-powered systems, and strengthening monitoring to protect marine life and biodiversity.

She also stressed involving local communities in tourism activities and expanding the use of clean energy solutions.
