Egyptian Metro Company workers on Sunday staged a sit-in demanding pay increases.
State-run news agency MENA quoted an informed source from the company as saying travel will not be affected by the strike.
The striking workers, according to the source, were appointed recently. They gathered in Demerdash metro station where they announced the strike. They demanded equality with senior workers in allowances and bonuses.
The workers then relocated their strike from Demerdash to Al-Shohadaa station, the source added. The company is currently considering the strikers' demands.
Former Prime Minister Ahmed Shafiq, who was appointed by then-president Hosni Mubarak on 29 January and only in stayed office until 3 March, ordered the hiring of hundreds of temporary employees at state establishments to reduce near daily protests, in attempt to satisfy angry citizens.
