Minister: Egypt moving to develop strong, universal health insurance system despite economic challenges

Minister of Finance Mohamed Maait said Friday 19/04/2024 that providing health services with no financial burdens is one of the most important human rights in various countries of the world.

International development partners should support the development of comprehensive health coverage systems by directing more support and funds aimed at enhancing investment in human development, Maait added.

The minister made the remarks during a symposium titled “Expanding Health Coverage for All” held on the fringes of the Spring Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund in Washington.

Maait pointed out to the severe pressure imposed by global economic challenges on the budgets of various countries, including emerging markets.

The minister said Egypt is moving to develop a strong and universal health insurance system despite all the economic challenges and financial pressures faced by the country.

The universal health insurance system aims to protect all members of Egyptian families from any health or financial risks resulting from diseases, he added.
