Illiteracy has reached 20 percent in Cairo, said Population Minister Hala Youssef during a meeting for the National Council of Population on Monday.
The minister pointed out that there is a low level of education in the city.
The Population Ministry has to develop strategies and general plans that will be implemented throughout the governorates, said Youssef, pointing to the need for a preliminary analysis of the population in Cairo as a first step. She added that the population crisis in Alexandria is more complicated than in Cairo.
The population in Egypt is not just a number, added the minister. The country's human resources should, ideally, be exploited.
