Egypt produces 16.6 percent of the world’s date production and 24.2 percent of the Arabian output, according to a recent report by the Agriculture Ministry.
The report added that Egypt’s exports, however, account for only 3 percent of world exports of the fruit and 45 percent of Arab exports.
Egypt currently produces 1.298 million tons of date, a 100 percent increase from 1993.
Palm trees occupy 86,000 acres of Egypt’s lands, with their numbers estimated at 15,582 million, the report said.
