MP wants use of parliamentary passport be limited to official travels

MP elect Haitham Aboul Ezz al-Hariry, a member of the House of Representatives for the governorate of Alexandria, has criticized MPs who object to restricting the use of the parliamentary passport to official use only.

"We need MPs who defend the people. Those who came into power through bribery will develop legislation for his interest, not the homeland's," Hariry said during a rally in Damanhour on Sunday.

It was only 13 MPs only who, by opposing the Camp David accords, forced late President Anwar al-Sadat to dissolve the Parliament, he said.

Hariry criticized requests for the amendment of the 2013 Constitution and called instead for its application through legislation developed by the Parliament.

Meanwhile, Kefaya Coordinator Abdel Rahman al-Gohary accused Sameh Seif al-Yazal, rapporteur for the For the Love of Egypt list, of carrying out the former role of the dissolved National Democratic Party leader Ahmed Ezz in previous Parliaments. He pointed out that some candidates used their power and money to win in the parliamentary elections.

"We need MPs who can face the Cabinet if it deviates, in light of the large powers granted to the Parliament under the Constitution," he added.

Gohary said the "remnants" of the Mubarak regime who entered the Parliament will not face the Cabinet.
