The Cairo Criminal Court on Friday released the sons of Egypt's former president Hosni Mubarak pending investigation over charges of illicit gain.
Alaa and Gamal have been released on a LE2 million bail pending probes carried out by the Justice Ministry’s Illicit Gains Authority. The release came as a response to a challenge against their custody detention over charges of abusing the influence of their father to draw gains exceeding their legal sources of income.
The pair stand trial over other corruption-related charges.
In May, both were sentenced to four years over charges of abusing state budget allocations for building personal properties under the guise of renovating presidential residences.
