Mubarak in Tripoli for 5-way Arab summit

President Hosni Mubarak left today to Tripoli to take part in a five-way Arab summit attended by leaders of Egypt, Libya, Yemen, Qatar and Iraq with the aim of reaching a vision for upgrading the Arab League’s mechanisms and discussing the possibility of an Arab union.

Leaders will also discuss several studies and suggestions to be reviewed by the exceptional Arab summit, scheduled for next October.

A delegation including Ahmed Abul Gheit, Minister of Foreign Affairs, who is already in Tripoli, Omar Suleiman, head of the intelligence services, and Zakaria Azmi, Mubarak’s chief of staff, will escort the president.
