NAC requests military council to decide constitution battle

In a letter signed by 56 political parties and movements, the National Association for Change (NAC) has requested the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) to assign the State Council to decide whether to write the new constitution before holding parliamentary elections.

Some judges in Alexandria favor holding the elections before writing the constitution, while others support the reverse.

“It’s better to hold the parliamentary and presidential elections first in order to restore security and stability,” said Abdel Rahman Bahloul, president of the Alexandria Criminal Court.

Mohamed Ali Singer, president of the Alexandria Court of Appeal, favored first writing a constitution in order to “produce a strong legislative body.”
