Pope Tawadros II arrives in Vienna on 2nd leg of European tour

Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark arrived on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, in the Austrian capital Vienna, accompanied by a delegation, marking the second stop of his foreign tour, which began Monday with a visit to Türkiye.

The pope was received by Egypt’s Ambassador to Austria and Permanent Representative to the United Nations and international organizations in Vienna Mohamed Nasr along with Egyptian Consul Mohamed el Beheiry.

He was also received by Bishop Anba Gabriel of Austria and a number of priests.

Pope Tawadros then headed to the Monastery of St. Anba Antony in Ober Siebenbrunn, where he was received by the monastery’s community of monks.

Accompanying him during the visit are Metropolitan Anba Daniel of Maadi, Metropolitan Anba Thomas of El Qousiya and Mir, Bishop Anba Angaelos of London, Monk Father Emmanuel El Moharraqi, Director of the Papal Office, and Father Mark Assad, priest of the church in Türkiye.
