Fattah al-Sisi is following up closely the details and repercussions of the terrorist attack that targeted the Church of Mermina in the Helwan area on Friday morning, which resulted in the killing and injury of civilians and policemen, the presidency said in a statement.
“The President of the Republic extended his condolences to the families of the martyrs of this despicable terrorist attack, which targeted a holy place during days where the Christian sons of the nation are celebrating Christmas holidays,” the statement said.
Sisi instructed relevant authorities to provide necessary care for the families of the deceased and injured, and demanded tightened security at vital sites.
“The presidency affirms that these desperate terrorist attacks will not undermine the resolve of Egyptians and their steadfast national unity, but will rather increase their determination to continue the process of cleansing the country of terrorism and extremism,” the statement read.
“The Presidency also commends the heroic spirit and generous sacrifices made by the security forces while repelling the terrorist attack and their success in thwarting an attempt to blow up the church,” it added.
