Presidential candidate Hisham al-Bastawisy has blamed the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces for last Friday's demonstrations in Tahrir Square, saying that the military council had provoked the mass demonstration by making various decisions that were at odds with the wishes of the people.
Bastawisy called on the military council and the various political forces to lay down the foundations for the new constitution, including the protection of basic human freedoms.
He also approved the preparation of a new constitution before holding the parliamentary elections.
“There cannot be a parliament without a constitution,” he said.
