Public transport routes resume after employee strike ends

Public transport buses have resumed operating after an employee strike that lasted almost two weeks.

Some bus routes resumed Monday afternoon, with the rest joining them Tuesday morning.

Public Transport Authority workers protested for 13 days to call for raising their end-of-service payments to equal the sum of one and a half to two months pay for each year they worked.

Transportation Minister Galal al-Saeed said he and Public Transport Authority workers agreed they would resume work starting Monday, with full operations resuming on Tuesday.

The minister responded to the workers’ demands in response to pressure from Parliament’s Transportation and Telecommunications Committee after its members met with the protesters to discuss their demands.
