Rough weather shuts seven ports

Egyptian authorities closed seven ports along the Mediterranean and Red Seas on Wednesday due to high winds and rough water.

Traffic in the Suez Canal and harbors in Port Said, Sharq al-Tafree’a, Arish and Damietta were unaffected.

Major General Mohamed Gaballah, head of the Red Sea Ports Authority, said five ports along the Red Sea had suspended activities due to the inclement weather, including Port Tawfiq as well as Zayteyyat, al-Adabeyya, Sharm El-Sheikh and Nuweiba Ports.

The harbors are used mostly for the import and export of goods such as oil and gas as well as commercial passenger travel.

Meanwhile, Wednesday marked the sixth day that Ain Sokhna Port has remained shut due to a workers strike.
