Rumors of pope’s death aim to undermine stability, says Coptic Church

The Coptic Church has confirmed that Pope Shenouda III is in good health, denouncing the rumor about his death as an attempt to undermine national stability.

Internet bloggers had quoted political activist Georgette Quilliny as saying the pope had died. However, Quilly denied that the rumor started with her.

“Those who attributed the rumor to me aim to jeopardize my good relations with the pope,” Quilliny said.

“The rumor was spread by certain elements that have their own agenda,” said Nader Morkos, a member of the Confessional Council
