The Supreme Council of the Armed Forces on Sunday denied reports by satellite news channel Al Jazeera that military Chief of Staff Sidqy Sobhy had been dismissed.
In a statement on its official Facebook page titled “What do they want from the Armed Forces?” the SCAF called on the media to apologize for broadcasting false reports.
“The media have, in the last 48 hours, disseminated information affecting the security of the Armed Forces, without taking into account the critical circumstances the country is going through, as if they suggest that there is discord within the Army,” the statement said.
“The Egyptian Armed Forces has throughout its history been disciplined,” the statement added. “And we have our own rules that make sure individual excesses will not be repeated.”
The statement concluded by saying that the military spokesperson and its official website would immediately announce the correct information.
