The personal guards of Islamic preacher Sheikh Mohamed Hassan and a number of his fans assaulted residents and journalists in Omm el-Kosour village in Assiut Governorate, attempting to stop them from entering the village hospital to take photos of Hassan during the inauguration of Assuit University Hospital. They also mistakenly detained Assiut's governor, al-Sayid al-Boraie, outside the Hemodialysis Unit in the hospital.
Sheikh Hassan arrived at the governorate guarded by five and was received by Salafis who blocked the agricultural road for an hour. Many tried to push their way to shake hands with the sheikh, but the guards countered with violence, beating some of them. Hassan could not inaugurate the hospital.
One of the guards attacked journalists, including Al-Masry Al-Youm's correspondent, Sahar al-Hamadany, to stop them from entering and taking photographs. The guards closed the doors of the hospital unit. The pushing caused Hassan to fatigue, which was clear as he tried to shake hands with patients.
The five-storey hospital cost LE21 million, and includes all specializations, a building for emergency cases, a unit with 25 machines for Hemodialysis, three Intensive care units, two operation rooms, an endoscopy units, units for sonar and x-ray, an integrated medical lab and outpatient clinics.
