A source revealed that Moetassem Fathi, an officer at the Administrative Control Authority, a government anti-corruption body, was forced to resign from his position due to attempts to marginalize him. He had revealed a number of corruption cases prior to the 25 January revolution that toppled former President Hosni Mubarak.
Prior to resigning, Fathi was harassed at work and was transferred several times to various departments within the authority, said the source.
The source went on to say that Fathi had revealed evidence of corruption by the former Housing Minister Ibrahim Suleiman as well as a number of governors and senior officials during Mubarak’s reign. Mubarak had decided to halt investigations into the cases.
Fathi had exposed three incidents of corruption, profiteering and abuse of influence by Suleiman and unveiled corrupt deals with businessmen and company owners, the sources said.
The sources added that Fathi had also provided evidence of corruption within the Transportation Ministry which led to the arrest of 18 officials in 3 years.
