The general secretary of the Wafd party, Mounir Fakhry Abdel Nour, has been chosen as Egypt's new tourism minister, informed sources told Al-Masry Al-Youm.
He accepted the post after consulting fellow party leaders, the same sources said.
Abdel Nour is the scion of a venerable Coptic family, a renowned economic expert and a former parliamentarian. He is a grandchild of Fahkry Abdel Nour, who was one of the closest friends of nationalist leader Saad Zaghloul, the leader of the 1919 revolution against the British occupation.
Egypt is expecting a government reshuffle within the next few hours. Reports say that vacant seats will be filled and some familiar government faces will be replaced with opposition figures.
